Objectives

  • Optimize the role of lime in water treatment operations.
  • Learn how to select the right material, improve lime processes, and navigate challenges with slaking.
  • Improve data-driven decision-making before committing investments.

Description

Lime plays a critical role in many treatment processes, including pH control, corrosion control, water softening, flocculation and coagulation support, and sludge processing. However, selecting the right lime material, optimizing its use in application, and balancing needs for safety, economy, efficiency, equipment wear-and-tear, and other factors can be a challenge. This webinar will provide strategies and methods for water treatment agencies to analyze and enhance the use of lime in their operations while meeting their specific requirements.

Presenters will provide attendees with an understanding of lime reagents, handling best practices, methods to produce high-quality calcium hydroxide slurries from quicklime and hydrated lime, and strategies for evaluating reagent choices. A case study will provide an example of a municipal water treatment plant that invested in switching from quicklime slaking to hydrate makedown processing, including the considerations, trial equipment, and analysis that were utilized.
