Quicklime

At MLC, our calcium oxide (CaO), or commonly referred to as quicklime, is a high calcium content derivative of our 98.5% pure calcium carbonate (limestone). Calcium oxide is produced by heating calcium carbonate to 2000 degrees F where carbon dioxide disassociates as a gas from the calcium carbonate:

Calcium Carbonate + Heat = Calcium Oxide + Carbon Dioxide
{CaCO3} + Heat = {CaO} + {CO2}

Calcium oxide can be utilized in a variety of applications because of its physical and chemical qualities. MLC’s calcium oxide product families and description are shown below:

  • Standard Quicklime is produced and sold in several sizes ranging from ¼” to 2″.
  • Pulverized Quicklime is available in both a treated and untreated form for use in glass, fiberglass and steel industries.
  • Activated Fine Lime “AFL” is a high-performance quicklime product for use in water treatment applications.
  • VitaCal® O Calcium Oxide is a very high purity calcium oxide used in both the chemical and food industries.
  • MicroCal® O Calcium Oxide can be applied to a wide variety of chemical manufacturing applications where purity and reactivity are important.
  • Products available by sizing: MicroCal® OF100 (coarse) OF200 (medium) OF325 (fine) OFT15 (ultra-fine)
  • OXP grade is lower in mineral impurities than other calcium oxides (especially lower in iron, aluminum and silica impurities)
  • PetroCal® O Calcium Oxide is designed to meet the exacting requirements of the petroleum additives industry.
  • OS100 is a coarse grade slow reacting PQL
  • OF100 is a coarse grade fast reacting PQL

  • OS325 is a fine slow reacting grade
  • OF325 (fine) and OFT15 (ultrafine) are fast to react with moisture

Standard Quicklime

Lime, Quicklime, Calcium Oxide, Burnt Lime, HiCal Lime, Caustic Lime, Calcium Lime

MLC Standard Quicklime has set the standard for lime users for many years. Our quicklime is used in flue gas desulfurization, water and waste water treatment, steel, paper, chemical and environmental applications. Standard Quicklime is produced and sold in several sizes. Our Granular and ½” Pebble Quicklime are generally slaked for use in industrial applications. The larger sizes are commonly used as fluxing agents in the metals industry.

There are four types of Standard Quicklime manufactured at our plant in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri:

  • 2″ Pebble – 2″ Quicklime used mainly in steel and associated industries.
  • 1″ Pebble – 1″ Quicklime used mainly in steel and associated industries.
  • ½” Pebble – ½” Quicklime that is used in a wide variety of flue gas and industrial applications.
  • Granular – ¼” X 0 Quicklime that can be used in applications similar to ½” Pebble.

All products are available to be shipped via barge, rail or truck. The Standard ½” and Granular Quicklime are also available in 50# bags packaged in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri. Special packaging and/or bulk bags can be accommodated through our packaging partners.

Mississippi Lime Company owns and/or operates terminals throughout the United States. See more information under the Sales/Customer Service tab of our Home page.

Pulverized Quicklime

The Mississippi Lime Pulverized Quicklime family of products can be applied in many chemical and industrial applications where a small particle size and consistent quality are required. These products are manufactured to have consistent chemical and physical properties that are demanded by the end use applications. This consistency makes Mississippi Lime Pulverized Quicklime ideal as a raw material for fiberglass, glass and steel applications.

There are two types of Pulverized Quicklime manufactured at our plant in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri:

  • Pulverized Quicklime: Flo-Treat is designed for excellent flow characteristics as well as consistent physical and chemical properties.
  • Pulverized Quicklime is a high purity calcium oxide for use in a variety of industrial applications.

All products are available to be shipped rail or truck. Special packaging and/or bulk bags can be accommodated through our packaging partners.

Activated Fine Lime

Mississippi Lime Activated Fine Lime “AFL” offers less insoluble grit and impurities, overall better slaking performance, dosage reduction and faster reacting speed.

Available to be shipped via truck. Special packaging and/or bulk bags can be accommodated through our packaging partners.

Microcal® O Calcium Oxide

The Mississippi Lime MicroCal® O Calcium Oxide family of products can be applied into chemical manufacturing applications where purity and reactivity are important.

Mississippi Lime has a broad product offering of MicroCal® O Calcium Oxide in order to meet the varied requirements of chemical and manufacturing applications.

  • MicroCal® OF100, MicroCal® OF200 and MicroCal® OF325 are high calcium oxides that have different flow, sizing and reactivity profiles. This portfolio allows Mississippi Lime to meet your raw material needs.
  • MicroCal® OFT15 is a pure calcium oxide with a steep particle size distribution and controlled top size making it an excellent choice for demanding applications.
  • MicroCal® OXP grade is lower in mineral impurities than other calcium oxides (especially lower in iron, aluminum and silica impurities)

All products are available to be shipped via rail or truck. MicroCal® O Calcium Oxide is available in a variety of packages.

PolyCal®  O Calcium Oxide

The Mississippi Lime PolyCal® O Calcium Oxide family of products is produced for the rubber and plastics industries where tight sizing and reactivity control are essential.

There are three types of PolyCal® O Calcium Oxide manufactured at our plant in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri:

  • PolyCal® OF is designed as a desiccant for polymer, plastic and rubber processing. The small particle size, efficient absorption properties and fast reactivity of PolyCal® OF result in excellent moisture control for demanding applications.
